Food Forest

We welcome you to be a part of our initiative for Reforestation and Food Forests, where the seeds of sustainability and biodiversity are sown to nurture a greener, healthier planet.

Within Bhoomithan’s core value, lies our inate ambition to curve climate change through reforestation and by supporting soil regeneration in Nepal.

We lease vacant lands to generate soil by planting native trees favoured by the area while keeping sustainability in mind and use of the harvest to attract local species and support the community.

Reason One

Biodiversity

Food forests are a diverse mix of fruit and nut trees, shrubs, herbs, and vegetables, creating a diverse ecosystem that can support a wide range of plant and animal life. This can help to protect and promote biodiversity in the area, which is essential for maintaining healthy ecosystems.

Reason Two

Sustainable agriculture

Food forests are designed to mimic the structure and function of natural ecosystems, promoting soil health, reducing erosion, and improving water retention. This can help to reduce the need for synthetic inputs like fertilizers and pesticides, making food forests a more sustainable form of agriculture.

Reason Three

Climate resilience

Food forests can be designed to be resilient to the impacts of climate change, such as drought and flooding. By diversifying the crops grown and incorporating a range of tree species, food forests can help to mitigate the effects of extreme weather events.

Reason Four

Food security

Food forests can provide a reliable source of food and income for local communities, particularly in rural areas. By growing a mix of crops, food forests can provide a range of fruits, vegetables, and nuts throughout the year, helping to improve food security for local households.

Reason Five

Economic development

Food forests can also provide a source of income for farmers and other members of the community. By diversifying the crops grown, food forests can create new markets for locally grown produce, boosting economic development in the area.

Food forests can provide a sustainable and diversified source of food and income for local communities in Nepal, while also promoting biodiversity and climate resilience. By incorporating food forests into agricultural planning and policy, Nepal can help to build a more sustainable and resilient food system for the future.
